Bounced check, notice sent, misplaced original check. Advise?

My ex-exmployer for whom i worked as a freelancer gave me a check that bounced. I sent him a 30 days notice but he's not paying. He's asking me to return the original bounced check which I have lost. What do I do? Can I still take legal action (i'm from India)?
